Hello! I would like to announce that I am opening an online writer's workshop, right here on the forums. Everyone is welcome, all types of stories. And it is free! We will share stories, tips, and weekly, in depth lessons, and one on one help. If you would like to join, please say so, and what type of stories you write. I will do my best to make you, and me, a better writer!

I don't think you are getting the point. This is a school Based on the lesson we are learning, we will write a story showing we can do it, and how we do it. We can compare all of our methods, share tips around, and read a weekly lesson.

Welcome to Silvereel’s first writing workshop course. Forgive me if I am a bit bland, this is the first time I have ever tried teaching anyone anything. We are going to be discussing the creation of a story, where ideas come from, and what makes a good idea.
Imagination is one of mankind’s greatest gifts. With it he can free himself from boredom, at all times. Whether he is writing it down on paper before him, or imagining it in a traffic jam, to write it down later, he is free from his boredom. Imagination can teach things, too. We can learn more about ourselves through writing. What is more, is that we are in a great time for imagination. I feel we are in a bit of a renaissance for writers. Quite a bit of great creations are coming into being, and you could be the next one… Also, we have many more new forms of imagination coming into being. Stories can be told by video games, television, film and, more classical methods, like the play or novel. I see a bright future for the imagination. Poetry, on the other hand, is still active, but nowhere near as much as it once was. Wonderful stories can be told from poetry, too. Beowulf, The Illiad and many other great works are all poetry, and William Shakespeare’s plays were also fairly poetic.
But where does the idea come from? The mind of course. Smells, sights and dreams can all be the start of great ideas, as can names. J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, created The Hobbit by scribbling a few words on a sheet of waste paper. I always begin my stories with a setting, and a set of names. The names then become characters, and from their flaws and characteristics, I tailor a story for them. Often they change dramatically, or are dropped altogether, but great tales can come from them. Look around, ideas are all around you.
Now, I want you to get ideas and create names, and develop as I have told you. Next week I will cover the creation of a good story, and what makes one.
